The Science of Deep Work
The Pomodoro Technique is a time management method developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s. It uses a timer to break work into intervals, traditionally 25 minutes in length, separated by short breaks.
Why it works
Short bursts of intense focus followed by relaxation help maintain mental agility. The timer creates a sense of urgency and keeps you accountable, while the breaks prevent burnout.
The Cycle
- Pick a task.
- Set the timer to 25 minutes (Focus).
- Work until the timer rings.
- Take a short 5 minute break.
- After 4 cycles, take a longer 15 minute break.
