How GPS Speed Works
Unlike a car speedometer which measures wheel rotation, this tool uses the Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites orbiting the Earth to calculate your precise location and speed.
Why is it accurate?
GPS speed is often more accurate than vehicle speedometers, which are calibrated to read slightly high or can be affected by tire pressure and wear. GPS calculates speed based on true distance over time.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Enable Location: Your browser must be allowed to access your location.
- Clear View of Sky: GPS works best outdoors. Indoors or tunnels will block the signal.
- Keep Screen On: We try to keep your screen awake, but check your phone settings if it dims.
